When Nik Kershaw's debut single, 'I won't let the sun go down', was released by MCA records back in September 1983, there was no surrounding furore, no dramatic leap into the chards, no suggestion of either hype or overnight success. But sales began to trickle in, and in succeeding weeks, radio producers and DJ's, both nationally and regionally took to the record in increasing numbers. 'I won't let the sun go down' slowly made inroads on the charts, entering the Top 200 on October 19th, and peaking at No. 47 six weeks later.

In the interim, Nik recorded two numbers for BBC TV's Saturday Superstore, and became one of the first artists ever to have his slot shown in the week of recording - normally people wait at least two or three weeks! He also made appearances on TVS and Anglia, and had his video shown on every regional TV station. Nik would have in fact made several more TV appearances himself regionally, but for the fact that he was closeted in the studio putting the finishing touches to his debut album. Press interest in Nik has also been substantial, with features so far appearing in Samsh Hits, Record Mirror, Just Seventeen, Chartbeat and the Scottish Daily Record.
All this media attention and chart success, however, should not be allowed to conceal the fact that Nik Kershaw is an extraordinarily talented musician. He has just completed the recording of what promises to be one of the finest albums of '84, consisting entirely of original material recorded alnost completely by Nik on his own - along with producer Peter Collins, of course. As a prelude to the album, MCA will be releasing 'Wouldn't It Be Good' as a single on January 13th. Don't say you weren't warned!
